Nerd Alert
Forgot to mention that Game of Thrones is filmed predominantly in Belfast. When we passed the studio on the tour, Urte and I actually squealed a little bit. In our room in the hostel, Urte, Kasey and I had an awesome discussion about the books, and Kathryn and I have talked about them as well.  It’s nice to be around GIRLS who read the series and not just boys.  Not that I don’t love...

Why visit Belfast?
This was a question I heard more than once this weekend when participants in the Arcadia programs across Ireland (including Cork, Dublin, Galway and Limerick) joined up to make the trip to Northern Ireland. My parents (specifically, my mother) have given me full permission to travel throughout Ireland by myself as much as I want — with one exception.  This exception, of course, is Belfast. ...

The Love Competition →
This is a fabulous short documentary about a study conducted at Stanford in which the researchers used fMRI to measure the love generated by a number of participants.  Watch and find out who can love the hardest. (Many thanks to Alex for showing me this.)

In case anyone is interested, I also keep a poetry blog, which I don’t update as frequently, but that I’m trying to get back into. Click the link above to read my blogspot, “Whole Bellied Dreams.”

Just went to four different bookstores looking for “Amongst Women,” which is supposed to be one of the most famous books in Anglo-Irish literature. None of them had it. Suspicious…

Last night, a group of us went to hear a guy on our Arcadia program play the fiddle (Did you know that fiddle is just a way you play the violin and not technically a different instrument? I didn’t until last night.) in a band at a bar just outside of the city centre.  Then we came home and watched four episodes of The O.C. It was nice way to end another weekend in Cork (and my last one here...

London Calling!
In an interview, Chris Martin was once asked why he agreed to collaborate with Kanye West on the song “Homecoming.” Martin answered that he was interested in the project because Chicago is his second favorite city. Second, of course, to London. I still love Chicago more than any other city (I know I live in Evanston, by the way) — more than dirty New York and quaint little Boston...

RAG Week
My dad kindly reminded me that I haven’t posted in a few days so I’ll try to catch you all up on my super exciting life (mostly sarcasm, actually). This week is Raise and Give Week (also know as RAG Week) at UCC.  It’s a week dedicated to raising money for charity, skipping class and indulging in a constant state of intoxication — at least for the Irish.  I myself have...
